May’s news has been dominated by the environment. The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) adopted a new international convention on ship recycling in a bid to protect workers and the environment from hazardous substances. A report from a German research institute found that mega trucks will not help to protect the climate from CO2 emissions. The European Shippers’ Council (ESC) has warned about the dangers of the Rotterdam Rules, the new international rules for the carriage of containerized freight.
