While the PM has narrowly squeezed through 42-day detention without charge for terror suspects and the like in the Commons, a more mischievous sort could claim Labour’s support for UK tourism has been nothing short of criminal.
Certainly UKinbound chairman Philip Green (no, not the retailer) decided a vocal statement along those lines – £20b UK tourism deficits an all - was in order last week at a Westminster Reception hosted by the All Party Tourism Group and tourism minister Margaret Hodge.

Hodge, who you’ll have to agree is the best tourism minister we’ve had this year, didn’t take the criticism well and stormed out. Lord Pendry, the chairman of the All Party Group, offered to resign there and then and although he has let-on he might be persuaded to stay on in his role, has now called for Green’s head, thankfully figuratively (well, you never know with lords).
Aldo Zilli’s Chef Factor stars appear to have suffered from stagefright according to the Italian chef at auditions for his new Brighton eaterie.
Chicken rights campaigner Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall (the meat loving chef that not all chickens should trust) has raised the £80,000 odd required of him to make his case for better conditions for poultry to Tesco’s shareholders.
AA Gill really doesn’t like restaurateur Alan Yau’s latest Cha Cha Moon and it doesn’t make it onto the shortlist for the reborn London Restaurant Awards.
Compass Group is king of the castle and Gary Rhodes – not a dirty rascal - is launching two restaurants in Dorset. No news yet if badger is on the menu.
Involved in school catering? Well if so we want to hear your views on school dinners and have a short online survey prepared that we’d love you to complete.
With a congestion charge for Manchester a step closer, councils gave publicans a cause for merriment with news that the majority won’t be bothering with the Government’s controversial Alcohol Disorder Zone scheme, which is now available to implement.
But I’ll leave you with the words of Mark Rossi, executive chef at Abode Hotels and Michael Caines Restaurants, who spoke to Caterer about colleges and the skills crisis that blights hospitality.
"It's all very well complaining that the level of new students isn't what it was 10 years ago, but if you're not out there into the colleges and getting involved, then what do you expect? I'm not having a dig at anyone in particular, but people need to stop moaning about it and just do something." Nuff said.
